Cronulla goofyfoot Pete Smith was a rising star in the ametuer ranks when these 4 shots were taken in the mid to late 70’s at a NSW Schoolboys Comp. The caption called him an outstanding prospect. Pics Borland, Mcleod and Channon from SW.

Many people with long memories still believe Pete Smith from the Animal days in the 70’s was one of the hottest surfers to ever ride the waves at Cronulla . He was right up there with Bobby Brown and Occy in talent, he is still sadly missed. Photo Rob King ’78.

Easily one if not the hottest surfer/shaper to come out of Cronulla during the late 70’s. The naturally talented goofyfoot along with Ross Marshall, Craig Naylor and Jim Banks brought a new competitive edge to the Southside beaches. This shot of Smithy was taken at Blackrock in 81. Pete was riding his Emerald shaped single fin pintail with red rails. A true waste of talent when he was taken far too young. R.I.P
