Taylor Bay Bar lies in the middle of Botany Bay and only breaks a handful of times a year when huge storm swells power into the Bay. Local Ramsgate surfers back in the 70’s like the Hughes brothers Gary and Dean were regulars. This shot taken in 2013.

Flintoff was blowing up in 2007. His aerial surfing was world class and he had his contest act down to a fine art. He was also one of the most sought after surfers by the media for his ability to get the shot. Below Flintoff on the mission photo Morris.

Ratso who at the time was the NZ Champion made Cronulla his 2nd home in the late 70’s and alternated between the two. He found work as a shaper and hit the Pro Tour with mixed results. This snap shot was taken at The Point in the early 80’s by Michael Spence love the Island logo.

In the early 90’s this oil Tanker was washed into Greenhills and got stuck during a hell swell and caused a bit of panic due to its cargo. From Tracks photo Sarge.

In the mid to late 70’s a young surfer from San Souci called Gary Hughes name was synonymous with Cronulla Point. At the time The Point had become the focal point of Southside surfing. The big open barrels made great water photos and locals photographers like Steve Core who shot the pic below captured the intense barrels that had been overlooked for many years after Jack Edens mag Surfabout was shelved in the late 60’s. Hughsey was a standout when the Point was at its heaviest but he also had plenty of competition back in those days for waves which helped push performance levels up a few notches. This photo of a late drop by Gary appeared in Surf Magazine in 1977.
