Greg McKinnley is one of the keenest surfers ever put on this earth. Each new swell Ox would be out there at first light to get the best of the waves before the rest of the droves got out there. The  Island has always been one of his favourites. Shot taken around 2006.

Terepai Richmond

Looks like Kirra but it just the Island doing its thing. Throughout the 90’s Terepai was on almost every swell that hit the notorious ledge and as usual it almost always paid off.

Peter Britton

Kneeboard shaper Peter Britton was a regular out The Point and Island throughout the 70’s when he wasn’t in the factory mowing foam. This shot by Dave Shaw captures the explosion as the lip hits the reef.

 

Banksy ’80

Occy Shark Island

Around 87 Occy lucked into a solid uncrowded session at The Island. This shot captured the Occster stalling on his backside, most other surfers would have been high tailing  it out of this section at Whiterock. Photo Chris Stroh
