This pic was taken in ’82 of Nat leaving the surf at The Point after a celebrity heat with Wayne Lynch and Peter Drouyn during a pro comp. In the background you can see one of the old drain pipes, from memory I think there was a smaller one as well . During the pre leg rope days your board could get washed up inside the pipe and to get it out was sketchy with the walls covered in barnacles and the surging waves made it very scary these days they are blocked. pic Stroh

Another underground talented goofyfoot who always seemed to manage to be in the right place at the right time especially the Island everytime it broke. This pic of Kevin was snapped at Blackrock mid 80’s. Photo Stroh

In the latter half of the 80’s a nuggety little kid called Damien Hodge showed heaps of potential and looked to be heading in the same direction as Occy. Jason and Richard Marsh took him under their coaching wing and he looked set to be the next big thing from Cronulla after he was sponsored by Billabong and Peak. Damien in the coming years may not have reached early expectations but he still was and is a solid surfer who on his day is up there with the best. This pic of Damien is when he was still a very young grommy. Photo Chris Stroh

Every beach has them the underground shredder who comes out of nowhere every time the waves are pumping. Example ,take Ricky Plamena caught steering through an ugly Island washing machine ride from a 5 shot sequence photo Chris Stroh Circa early 90’s.

In 1987 it was Gary Green who came up with the idea for Billabongs latest advertising campaign called Bad Billy’s. Bad Billy’s was the skull and cross bones logo that was a extremely successful marketing move that targeted the youthful bad boy type image. Grub is another one of those local shredders who have been around forever. Back in 79 he was apart of Cronulla Junior Board riders club and competed that same year in the Aussie titles at Merewether. Since those early days Grant has concentrated on his free surfing and has proven himself countless times on Cronulla’s heaviest reefs on the best days standing out from the pack. This shot taken at The Point around 1990 shows Grubs stylish carving cutback. pic by Chris Stroh

When The Points cranking you never know who may end up in the lineup. This day young rising Dee Why surf star Shane Herring dropped by for a session and didnt disappoint. In the following years Herring became the great white hope of Aussie surfing to combat Slaters domination. That was until his life became a train wreck. photo taken early 90’s by Chris Stroh

Max Garling the struggling Cronulla main street Surf Shop owner of the 70’s went from rags to riches when he started producing Benz Bikinis. For a while it seemed like every beach girl had one of Maxes cutting edge designs. At all the major surf comps the Benz girls were always on hand helping out. This photo was taken at the LP Electrics comp at Elouera early 80’s photo Stroh
