Heres another retro moment from an EBC presso Circa early to mid 80’s at Northies pub. This time its red hot goofyfoot Rod Baldwin in the wig, along with cowgirl Sue and Mevo dressed as a super hero. Rod scrubs up pretty well with a bit of makeup and low lights. The moustache and hairy chest was the only giveaway. photo Stroh

Check out this fluro number from the colourful 80’s. Remember this was the same era that gave us Prince , Billy Idol and hair bands like Motley Crew. This was the EBC club tshirt around ’88 and it was designed by the late Andrew Murphy when he was right into his Waxhead label.

Joel has been one of the standouts for EBC for many years. In 2004 he proved his point to win the highly contested Open Regional Title against Cronulla’s best. It hammered home the point what most people knew already that he has what it takes. This pic taken early 2000 of Joel was shot at Midway photo Craig Stroh.

EBC Pressos were always a blast in the eighties. From fancy dress to mosh pits , flushing the heads of grommets and regular chest slamming on the dance floor. This pic is of Elouera heavy weight Andrew “Lips” Linegar getting into it while friend Sue looks on. Mick Moylan is in the background. Photo early to mid 80s by Stroh

Luke Weinert is one of the Elouera Dunny Hanger crew who is best known for his aerial antics and general cutting edge moves. This shot taken around early 2000 is typical of a Weinert surf session , turning average waves into big photographic moments, he definitely makes the camera mans job that much easier. photo Craig Stroh

Growing up his whole life at Elouera it was only natural that Shane would be a EBC Dunny Hanger. While older brother Glenn rode the rights, Shane ripped it up on the left rip bowls. Shane was a bit of a news magnet. Anything that was going on in Cronulla, Shane knew about it before anyone else. As a junior he won numerous surfing titles but instead of chasing a career in surfing he joined up to work with his Piping Hot Wetsuit sponsor and moved to Torquay for a short spell. After coming back to Cronulla, Shane seemed distant, the mischeavous sparkle in his eye was gone and he was different to the bubbly kid that everyone loved. He was diagnosed with manic depression a short time later and like other Cronulla surfers The Bear, Ross Fielder, Troy Dennehy and Andrew Murphy he sadly took his own life. The pics below show Shane tearing it up at his beloved Dunny Bowl and large gathering of family and friends line the beach and headland at Elouera to send off Shane in typical Surfing style with a paddle out tribute.

Brian Pringle started surfing on a mal in the 60’s and moved the family into Bando rd where they still remain today. When sons Glenn and Shane were coming up the ranks Mr P would paddle out the back to The Point on his red wave ski and take the set waves. Using his paddle as a deterent to any drop-ins he would take control of the inside wave position while Glenn and Shane who were too small to steal any waves from the hungry Point pack could take off while Brian acted like their personal bouncer so they could get bigger wave experience. Now thats a devoted dad. Photo left Brian on his eggbeater and young Glenn smacking the lip on his single fin McCoy Lazer Zap. Circa mid 80’s photo Chris Stroh

Kelvin was a strong competitor for Elouera Boardriders Club during the 80’s. He was apart of EBCs very competitive Surf League team and didnt mind dressing up in strange outfits at surf comps like his winning surfing chicken display with Jason Meakins at the Straight Talk Open. In 83 he won the EBC Club Championship. This pic below was taken at The Point mid heavy lip gouge on his Sky surfboard early 80s. photo Stroh
