Barry “Fanga” Tyte is a talented goofyfooter who is treated with plenty of respect down at The Alley. Fanga has been a dominant part of the Cronulla Boardriders Club since the earliest days. He was Open Club Champion in ’81  and over the next few years he was regularily involved in a 3 way tussle with Craig Naylor and Ross Marshall for top honors. Fanga was renown for disappearing to a  secret left reef long before word spread about its hollow barrels and got crowded. Fanga had it to himself for years. This pic of Fanga was from an article on Cronulla Boardriders Club in Tracks in ’83 taken by Peter Simmons.

The image of Greeny on his Force 9 with the black deck print design was a regular feature in the surfing mags of the eighties. This cover shot appeared in Surfing World Issue 196. He loves a beer and a lip to hit.

Gary Green gave up a solid career as a pro surfer to become one of the sports first sponsored soulman riders. This pic was snapped at one of Greenys favourite hangouts called Blackrock. He has the place wired and is one of the best tube riders to ever grace its perfect shaped barrels. Casual and stylish as always in the pit. Circa mid 80’s photo by Chris Stroh

Nugget during the late 80’s and 90’s was the mainman at The Alley along with his brother Mushy. The pair were small in stature but big in heart. A natural talented goofyfoot Troy was the king of Northies lineup and ruled the Alley rip bowl, The Pools and Southies during those big Northeast days. Troy was a regular finalist in the Cronulla Sharks Boardriders Club monthly contests from a early age and won the Club Chamionship in 92, 93 & 2000. The pic below is of Nugget taking a set wave at South Cronulla during a huge cyclone swell. As always, this day Troy was the standout getting barreled time after time and hitting the lip in the mini Waimea like shorey.RIP…pic Stroh

Richard was another one of those Kurnel kids who in there Grom days would trudge over the Wanda sand dunes to have a surf. Along with his best mate Occy the pair would trade of heavy gouging front and backhand snaps wave for wave. Over the years Richard was a devoted Cronulla Boardriders Club  member surfing in there winning Surf League teams and at one stage a few years back he was even president of the club. This back hand blast was taken at The Alley sometime in the 80’s.  photo Chris Stroh

Simon Taylor

Simmo has been one of Cronulla Boardriders most lethal competitive weapons. He’s notched up 5 Open Club Championships winning in 97,2001,02,03,04,05 more than any other member since the club began in 78. Always humble and low key on land Simon changes like a Dr Jeckle and Mr Hyde once he throws on a contest t’shirt. While Old Joes and The Workers are long gone Hendo is still alive and ripping. The locals even named the reef at the Alley after him. This shot was taken mid 80’s with Hendo going left at his own reef
