Boogs charges hard.Hanging out with the likes of Rusty , Sparky, Jezza, Franky and Terra its a given. Whether he’s paddling out to the horizon to surf macking 5th Left, Voodoo, or Shark island you can guarantee he will be pulling into some of the biggest pits of the day. A proud Christian, Boogs is quiet by nature and soft spoken but when the reefs start going double overhead he’s turns into a barrel hungry beast. This shot shows him cranking a hard turn out of the Surge bowl a difficult feat on your backside . Photo Craig Stroh.

Fletch was once one of those ripping kids in Cronulla full of potential and big moves when this pic was taken. Almost every wave he would do something photogenic, whether it’s a big carving turn or a twisted tweak he is was always out to impress. These days Fletch is still ripping better than ever but with a more mature approach and a love for more challenging wave opportunities. Every beach has them the underground shredder who comes out of nowhere every time the waves are pumping. Example ,take Ricky Plamena caught steering through an ugly Island washing machine ride from a 5 shot sequence photo Chris Stroh Circa early 90’s.

Steve Hare is a charger who spends most of his life chasing good waves. If he’s not at Cloud 9 in the Phillipines he’s spending the winter at home sweating on those solid south swells to deliver some real reef grunt. Known to take a few good beat downs is all part of it and for his age he’s an underground legend showing there is no age limit to pulling in and giving it a nudge. pic Harey Shark Island by Craig Stroh

Cronulla has produced a lot of great surf photographers over the years and its probaly due to the quality of the reef waves in the area. Names like Jack Eden, Peter Solness, Steve Core, Peter Simons, Dave Shaw, Greg Button, Tim V, Greg Macca, Sarge, John Veage and Shorty are just a few who have stoked us with there wave work in the past. More recently Jon Frank has taken his surf art and photography to a new level. While these days he travels the world for Rip Curl he did learn his trade at Cronulla. Pic below of the multi talented Mr Frank surfing Suckrock by Chris Stroh Circa 90’s.

Underground Surf Magazine hit the newsagent’s shelves in Autumn 94. Local Elouera surfing identity Ben Horvath now the Coastal Watch man was the driving force. Bens mag was alternative and different to all the others focusing on cutting edge fashion, music and showing a more youthful and rebellious side to surfing. Plus it had plenty of Southside of the harbor coverage. It was also pretty contreversial with strippers etc that had the censors working overtime. Rusty Moran scored the cover of the first issue wearing his trademark Gath helmet that he was rarely seen without back in those days. Taken on a 2 metre south east day with a wrapping east bowl making things interesting. Rusty was making it look easy. Photo Chris Stroh

Ash was one of Glenn Pringles and Dogs main comp rivals back when they were juniors in the EBC ranks. His family house up near midway was the hang for all the kids. Ash looked like he had a promising competitive career ahead of him but seemed to lose interest and moved away from the coast for a while. A year or two later he was back with a new drive to surf powerful waves. He started charging at the Island and today he is one of the Nullas consistent big wave chasers always turning up when the waves are at there best. This pic taken from a sequence was shot early 90’s getting nicely slotted through Surge. pic Chris Stroh
