It was in the early 80’s can’t remember what year when local boy Sid Cassidy brought the pro tour to Cronulla and Sandshoes. On this day a north east swell was running and the beaches were flat and Shoes was the only spot offering a ride-able wave. Pic below was taken early morning as competitors got fun waves at an unlikely world tour contest venue.Photo Stroh

The club began officially in 1980 and Wayne Roach was the first club champion. Original members like Bluey, Veage, Sean Charters, Hendo, Spike and a young Occy a long tradition was started that still exists today. With many of the areas best riders among its ranks its no wonder the club has had the reputation and results to establish it as the premier club on the south side. This pic by Sarge 1981.

It was at a Surfabout comp that Banksy made his first big impact on the World Tour and ended up replacing Cheyne Horan on the Bronze Aussie team. In Narrabeen’s perfect lefts Jimbo was right at home and scored one of the best barrels of the comp. This shot of JB was taken at the ’81 event Photo Stroh
