Midway Comp ’76

After the Bobby Brown comp finnished up after 3 years of running Alistair Waddell organised a comp at Midway. It was meant to be for locals only but word soon got out. The waves ‘ co operate and the open event was won by Narra’s Col Sutherland, Col Smith second and the highest local was Fank Latta placing 3rd. Sandshoes Crew 70’s

Sandshoes was the place of pace back in the 70’s. Riders like Frank Latta, Reno, PT, Steve Griffiths, Steve Anastas, Steve Core , Graham Cassidy and a bunch of other talented surfers called it home. Many people with long memories still believe Pete Smith from the Animal days in the 70’s was one of the hottest surfers to ever ride the waves at Cronulla . He was right up there with Bobby Brown and Occy in talent, he is still sadly missed. Photo Rob King ’78.
