Lewis Cawsey / Paipo Rider

Lewis Cawsey has been surfing Cronulla Point since 1960 as a body surfer aged 10 and later as a Paipo rider and board rider ever since. Lewis was on the cover of Surfabout Vol 3 No1 with his mate Greg Vaughan as well as appearing in many other mags for Hand-plane surfing and Paipo surfing at the Point.Photo Jack Eden

In the 60’s some of the practices the Surf Clubs participated in at Carnivals were often viewed as old fashioned by the young surfers who were starting to break away from the Club scene. In particular the art of Pillow fighting shown here at North Cronulla in 1964.
