Wanda Sand Dunes ’68

The Wanda Dunes seemed so massive back then in 1968 they covered kilometres stretching all the way to Kurnell. Weekends were spent sand skiing,walking the dunes or watching the dune buggies. Tim Vanderlaan Collection.

Wanda Dunes

Wanda Dunes in the mid 70’s, Marram grass was being planted on the dunes in an attempt to stop the sand blowing into the open arms of the sand miners.

The Kouris at Wanda Beach

All sorts of things get washed ashore at Wanda. This time an east coast low generating a gale force southerly, blew the “Kouris”, (a liquefied gas tanker), onto Wanda beach on the 24th July 1989.
