The Bear started riding Paipos in early 60s out Cronulla Point Here is a an original Paipo home made by Wayne Munroe “We used to ride prone then kneel then spin around do a bum stand” Paul remembers. He rode this custom Paipo knee board pictured below at Shark Island in ’68.

August 1976. Wanda and Midway were renown for their rip breaks back in the 70’s and 80’s. Deep gutters and sandbars produced great surf conditions and put the newly invented leg ropes to the test. The early legropes were made from rope, but later were threaded through stretchy rubber tubing. Tim Vanderlaan Photo.

John Monie was a shaper and part owner at G&S from ’67 to 69 around the same time he was playing five-eight for the Sharkies.
