One of the original surfboard manufacturers on the south-side. Located at Rockdale in 1960 the factory eventually moved to Taren Point where Gary Birdsall was part of the team. Peter Clarke eventually took over the factory in the mid 60’s and changed the name. Below a 1960 9ft 2 inch Norm Casey double wooden stringer and the board decal from around that time.

No wonder Cronulla surfers are so proud of their waves. We have some of the best reefs on the East Coast that produce all shape and size conditions. This spot was the full secret spot when this shot of Dog was snapped around mid 80s riding his Daniel Surfboard and Peak Wetty, photo Chris Stroh.

Popout by Dave Shaw.

Gerry Manion aka Popout and water photographer Dave Shaw combined throughout the 70’s to notch up some classic Cronulla Point images. At the time it made surfers worldwide  begin to take notice of the wave and rider potential on the Southside. The amount of great local water shots being published suddenly over shadowed the saturated coverage given to the Northside for a while at least where the main surf mags always seemed foccussed. These two characters helped put Cronulla on the surfing map. This shot appeared in Steve Core’s mag Surf.

Sean Charters @ The Alley

Posted: March 27, 2012 at 8:16 pm

The Rip Bowl at The Alley is one of the most consistent banks in Cronulla, at times it can resemble a mini North Narrabeen due to the amount of competitiveness in the water. During the mid 80’s rarely a day would pass that Sean Charters wasn’t out there  dominating the lineup. Photo Chris Stroh taken around mid 80’s.
