Gerry “Popout” Manion’s performances on big days at The Point were the talk of the town in the late 70’s. Popout was an animal when it came to taking the biggest and heaviest sets. Not sure where the name Popout came from but in the early 70’s the first cheap mass produced machine moulded surfboards appeared on the surfing scene and they were called Popouts, maybe there’s a connection.
