Baron Surfboard

Manufactured by the great Geronimo – Ken Beavan – and made under license at Peter Clarke surfboards at Taren Point – at the time I thought that Ken and Peter co-owned the brand. Various shapers over the few years I was associated with the brand – including Frank Latta for a period – but I am pretty certain that the master, Ross Longbottom, would have glassed them. In my time at the Dee Why Surf Shop in Gerrale Street we sold plenty of Baron Surfboards. Our boss was of course a happy boss. We had Baronwear clothing too – the high-waisted thick cord bell bottom pants were a massive seller…. Geronimo put more Sydney guys onto surfboards than anyone I can remember then or since. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing is yours to decide but he was a truly great bloke. The man who later kicked off McGrigors in Brookvale.  Info courtesy of Darrl Sykes
