This photo was part of the Surfing World photo Annual called Road Song featuring Ross Marshall and Craig Naylor at Blackrock. It was a huge kick for the pair of Midway lads who’s profile blew up after the issue came out.

Ross Marshall was part of the Windensea Club which was a new highly competitive crew of local young surfers in the late 70’s .After a drought of competition success Ross an his mates began making inroads on the Northside domination of the contest scene. It was Ross who’s success first inspired the likes of the next generation grommets which included Occy. These days Ross lives up and Kingscliff, still ripping and riding for Kirra Boardriders club along with his son and daughter as well as working in the board industry.This shot was taken around Cronulla around 1980 prior to him moving north. Ross Marshall ’78

Ross Marshall like many of Cronulla’s rising surfing talents of the late 70’s were constant visitors to the South Coast. With so many decent reef waves on offer and a chance to escape Cronulla’s usual average beach break conditions Ross and his mates would be heading down the highway and the hint of swell. These shots taken in early ’78 at Pipe rights by Rob King.
