It was a who’s who of Cronulla surfing hierarchy today at Jackson Surfboards for day one of the Bobby Brown Exhibition. Gary Birdsall, Dave Milne, Jacko, Jack Eden, The Fox,Steve Core plus co ordinator Andy Mac and many more turned up to check out the pics, boards and memorabilia. You can check it out this week. This drawing of Bobby Brown appeared in a 60’s issue of International Surfing mag in a mini interview by Jack Eden.At the time this was a major scoop for the young Cronulla surfer.

In the May issue of Surfing World magazine there’s a informative article about Cronulla surfing legend Bobby Brown called Forever Twenty. The article features classic photos by Albert Falzon and insight from Andrew McKinnon who will be  touring up and down the coast with the Bobby Brown exhibition featuring classic pics and memorabilia.

Bobby Brown Trophy

The first Bobby Brown Memorial event was held in 1968 and was won by Midget. The following year Frank Latta the local hero took top honors. Then  it was Qld hot rat Andrew McKinnon who stole the show when he beat Frank, Paul Neilsen and Baddy Treloar in small beachies at Wanda the following year. Heres the much desired first place trophy Andy walked away with. Pic by Pegus as seen in Deep.

 The Bobby Brown Exhibition will be coming to Cronulla in 2011. On exhibition will be Bobby’s original surfboards, timeless photos, classic 16mm and 8mm movies, personal trophies and memorabilia tracking his short but highly successful surfing career. This advertisement for Gordon and Smith appeared in Surfabout Magazine Vol 4 No2. sometime around 1966. It featured Southside legend  Bobby Brown and his Stringerless Model…the sales pitch was its Bold, Daring, Exciting and Fundamental.
