Greg Meluish during his time shaping at G & S was well respected in the industry in the 70’s. Greg was just as well respected for his surfing ability. Melhuish was always a standard out at The Point when the waves got big and round and was featured in many of the mags during that time. This shot by taken in the late 70’s appeared in the Surfing World Issue 171 and was snapped by Dave Shaw

Luke was one of The Point regulars in the late 70’s and early 80s. He was known as a gutsy charger and a bit of a wave enforcer out there always vocal and loud towards the non locals. Luke made a name for himself when his image riding a solid Point barrel was used on a Sunkist Orange Juice advertisement that appeared in milkbars all around Australia. Along with brother Fanga the Tyte boys have been evergreens at Cronulla. While Fanga the goofyfoot surfed the Alley and the secret lefts in the area, Wayne on his forehand was a regular in The Point lineup on those pumping south swell days. It was during a similar session to the photo below of Wayne that he suffered every surfers worst nightmare . He pulled into a solid shutdown pit and while wiping out he hit his head and was knocked unconcious. Luckily Glenn Pringle saved the day when he saw Wayne had not come up after several waves had passed and pulled him to the surface. He was revived by Lifeguards and survived to surf another day. Hughesy was one of the rising stars from Cronulla in the latter half of the Seventys. He was renoun for his deep stylish go for it tube riding at The Point. Gary’s career was put on hold after he wiped out at Sunset in Hawaii and copped another riders loose board fin to his skull. He was rushed to hospital by helicopter and was lucky not to have died. This shot was taken in 81 after he fully recovered.Still stylin. pic Stroh.

A former Aussie School Boy champion Deano looked set to take on the Pro ranks and give them a shake. After a year or two of slogging it out in the trials he moved back into Cronulla once again and began working for Bluey in Cronulla Surf Design. He next started reping for Rusty Clothing. This pic was taken in the 80’s at Cronulla Point. Today Deano lives at Avalon but is still a die hard Cronulla boy through and through, especially his love for the Cronulla Boardriders Club and The Sharks.

Jim Banks was generally regarded as the best Goofyfoot to ride The Point throughout the 80’s decade. He had a classic free flowing casual style and would pick his line and exit some of the gnarliest barrels The Point would throw at him.
