The Point has long been a haven for unconventional surf-craft. In the 60’s it was bodysurfers and Paipo riders.During the 70’s Mat and Kneeboard riders were a regular fixture in the lineup and Rob McLaggan was a familiar face riding his Greenough inspired Spoon Kneelos. Rob was also producing Kneeboards for the local crew under The Customline label.

Surfer/Shaper Peter Glasson was a Point regular and was out there on the best days throughout the 70’s. This shot taken by Dave Shaw appeared in Steve Cores “Surf Magazine” late 70’s.

Jim Banks The Point ’83

This article on The Point was penned by Jim Banks in Tracks November ’83. It was just one of many surf articles written by Jimbo who showed off his extensive literary skills as well as inside knowledge. The main opening photo featured Banksy driving off the bottom photographed by Tony Nolan.

Robert “Bear”Jackson

The Bear as he was known around the beaches of Cronulla was a bit of a hometown hero. Rob was one of the founding members of Cronulla Point Boardriders and was a regular fixture in the lineup every pumping swell. In 1994 to the shock of friends the ever bubbly and popular Bear took his own life. The very next day the swell pumped. The photo below was from a Surfing Life story dedicated to Bear. Rip.

One of The Point regular crew during their celebrated glory days period in the mid 70’s. I played on the same basketball team as Greg, he was a big boy and just as intimidating out of the water. The Point photo Steve Core.
