Along with brother Fanga the Tyte boys have been evergreens at Cronulla. While Fanga the goofyfoot surfed the Alley and the secret lefts in the area, Wayne on his forehand was a regular in The Point lineup on those pumping south swell days. It was during a similar session to the photo below of Wayne that he suffered every surfers worst nightmare . He pulled into a solid shutdown pit and while wiping out he hit his head and was knocked unconcious. Luckily Glenn Pringle saved the day when he saw Wayne had not come up after several waves had passed and pulled him to the surface. He was revived by Lifeguards and survived to surf another day. Browny has been a longtime standout at Cronulla mainly around the beachies. He was a member of Cronulla Boardriders Club winning numerous club titles in the 80’s. In ’84 he was Cadet Champ, ’85 and ’86 he was Junior Champ and ’89 he was the Open Club Champ. Browny was also an integral member of CBC winning Surf League teams . Adam was a bit of a stylemaster back in the day with punk mohawks , tatts and piercings long before they became accepted. This pic stylish float taken near Red House around mid 80’s photo Chris Stroh

Joel has been one of the standouts for EBC for many years. In 2004 he proved his point to win the highly contested Open Regional Title against Cronulla’s best. It hammered home the point what most people knew already that he has what it takes. This pic taken early 2000 of Joel was shot at Midway photo Craig Stroh.

When The Points cranking you never know who may end up in the lineup. This day young rising Dee Why surf star Shane Herring dropped by for a session and didnt disappoint. In the following years Herring became the great white hope of Aussie surfing to combat Slaters domination. That was until his life became a train wreck. photo taken early 90’s by Chris Stroh

As always, Micks pulling his casual pose in the eye of the storm. The reef can be almost dry with barnacle heads poking up just inches under the surface but Mick just rides on regardless. Cool under pressure making it look to easy. Shark Island is not for the soft hearted. Pic taken around mid 80s by Chris Stroh.

Brian “Jacko” Jackson is the grand daddy of Cronulla surfing. His factory has been in the same location for so long its should be listed as surf heritage theres so much history revolving around it. Jackos approach has always been very basic and to the point. Jacko never lays on any bullshit, he’s straight down the line just like this early Jackson Surfboards advertisement. The tag… Surfers who ride a surfboard built by a true surfer.Hes included many local names from the time. From Tracks Mag September ’71.

This clean as a whistle barrel shot of Pete Smith on his signature design red railed pintail was featured in Surfing World Annual Vol 6 at Blackrock. Pete honed his tube riding skills at the infamous Aussie Pipeline and seeing him out there on a 1.5 metre day was pretty mind blowing. This pic was taken by Ian Borland early 80’s.

Max Garling the struggling Cronulla main street Surf Shop owner of the 70’s went from rags to riches when he started producing Benz Bikinis. For a while it seemed like every beach girl had one of Maxes cutting edge designs. At all the major surf comps the Benz girls were always on hand helping out. This photo was taken at the LP Electrics comp at Elouera early 80’s photo Stroh
