Pucko was one of the standouts performers at Cronulla from the long board era who began dominating the local contest scene while still a young teenager after Bobby Brown left us prematurely. Kris made an easy transition from longboards to shorter boards but while the short boards took over in the early 70’s he still prefered to rip on his mals.Pucko a few years later moved south to Kiama and set up a factory/shop selling his board shapes. This interview with Kris appeared in Tracks 1990.

Check out this Waveline advertisement from the 90’s featuring Ben Horvath as the priest, thats Gooch kneeling and Ryan in the choir boy outfit. The pic was shot at Darook Park right on sunset, when we set the surfboard alight the neighbours thought there was some devil worshipping going on and called the police and fire brigade. Blake growing up at Cronulla as a grommet was a standout from the time he first climbed up on a surfboard. With a nuggety frame a bit like young Occy he was soon carving up the beach breaks like a kid possessed . Today Blake is passing on his hard earned knowledge teaching other young hopefuls in his surf school. Pic Craig Stroh late 90’s.

In the Seventy’s you could store your board at the local surf shop for a weekly fee to save taking it home on the train. The Age Surf Shop was across from the railway station and down the lane , later on it became the location for Emerald and then The Shark Island Surf Shop.
