In the mid to late 70’s Cronulla Point was being compared to Sunset Beach in Hawaii thanks to the numerous shots that began turning up in mags of the incredible tubes on offer. This pic of Gerry Manyon appeared in Steve Cores magazine called “Surf” it was just one of the hardcore images that put Cronulla on the surf spot radar…photo Dave Shaw.

Tim Vanderlaan grew up on the hill at Wanda overlooking the beach in the family home. An accomplished Mal rider he took up Surf photography around the mid 70’s which resulted in many of his Cronulla images appearing in magazines over the past decades. This photo taken by Tim of an empty Shark Island wave was his first published photo in Surfing World.

An allround talent in the 70’s. When Dave Shaw wasn’t charging on his Mat on solid days at The Point he was out there in the lineup capturing some incredible photo images, some of the best water shots from that era. Pic of Dave by Simo.

After the Bobby Brown comp finnished up after 3 years of running Alistair Waddell organised a comp at Midway. It was meant to be for locals only but word soon got out. The waves ‘ co operate and the open event was won by Narra’s Col Sutherland, Col Smith second and the highest local was Fank Latta placing 3rd.
