Ross Marshall and The Pro Junior

Ross Marshall was in blitzing form at the Pro Junior held at Narrabeen in ’78. Regarded as the stepping stone into the pro ranks Ross placed 3rd while eventual winner was Tom Carroll. Photo Simon Chipper from the pages of Tracks.

Rusty @ Sucky

Rusty Moran is one of Cronulla’s big wave fanatics , he’s  risked life and limb to surf some outrageous life threatening waves all around the world throughout his career. Riders like Banksy , Occy, Boogs and Rusty himself honed their  big wave skills on  Cronulla’s numerous  powerful reefs.This shot Rusty tucks under the lip on a mellow Suckrock day photo Stroh early 90’s.

Les Martin grew up at Cronulla on a healthy diet of heavy waves. A Point and Island regular Chook could always be found not far from the danger zone. This shot from a sequence by Chris Stroh early 80’s.

Crochet Bikinis

Back in the 70’s Crochet hand knitted bikinis were all the rage. Almost every fair maiden had one that they were happy to strut their stuff in even though they didn’t handle the surf to well. This pic of a couple of typical Cronulla girls from around ’78 by Stroh.

Surfer/Shaper Peter Glasson was a Point regular and was out there on the best days throughout the 70’s. This shot taken by Dave Shaw appeared in Steve Cores “Surf Magazine” late 70’s.

Jacko Channel Bottoms

Practically every kid worth his salt owned a Jackson Channel Bottom in early 80’s including myself. The boys at Jacko are now reproducing the classic style once again and its available from the Jacko factory. This shot was taken at the recent Bop into Summer expo by Stroh.
