From the pages of Steve Cores “Surf Magazine” that was around in the late 70’s. Gary Hughes carving for Dave Shaw’s camera lens. Core’s mag was chock full of Cronulla based riders and waves  and it gave the Southside some much deserved recognition and a breath of fresh air rather than the usual Northside push in all the other Oz publications at the time.

Voodoo

Not sure where the name Voodoo came from but with a desolate and unforgiving coastline its no wonder Captain Cook did’t  land here. The reef itself is just as intimidating and lives up to its eerie reputation with regular reminders that this is one wave you don’t take for granted as this surfer below is about to find out.

Voodoo Wrecks

A pair of larrikins, Jason Meakins and Kelvin Hawkins were renown for getting the  party going. Two of EBC’s top performers of the 80’s this photo was taken when the pair dressed up in a zebra outfit at an end of year presso. Photo Stroh.

Mark Rhino Ryan
